4 social businesses working towards gender equality

Gender equality is still an issue.

A report published by the organisation Centro Reina Sofía sobre Adolescencia y Juventud shows that, in Spain, a majority of 56% of young people – the employers of the future – consider themselves to be either traditional and sexist or conservative and a denialist.

The other 44% (mostly females) are aware of the current inequality and actively support change. This group feels the role of women and men in society should be equal and has the vision of a society in which women have the some opportunities as men, whether that is in society, politics or business.

We have put together a list of a few social impact businesses that are challenging the status quo with the aim of creating a more inclusive world for everyone. These social businesses offer various solutions to the challenges we face in society, such as skills development, consulting, job platforms and the opportunity to network. They are setting an example for the rest of society and are helping to improve opportunities not only for women, but for the whole of society, including families, organisations and communities.

  • AllWomen – A social business founded by women that offers courses in technology to help more women join the artificial intelligence industry, which is currently dominated by men. It combines encoding, the binary numeral system and HTML with holistic transformation. At AllWomen enthusiasm and motivation are just as valuable as knowledge of mathematics.
  • Value for Women – A social business that investigates and develops capacities of organisations, promoting gender equality in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America. The innovative methods developed by Value for Women have improved both individual as well as collective results of organisations it has helped put gender equality into practice.
  • Pro Mujer – A financing platform that supports the overall ecosystem as well as individual women entrepreneurs in Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. Upon filling out a simple form, a user can choose what service their donation will go towards – the three options are finance, business and basic health care. • WEConnect International – A job platform that brings together large companies and independent women. It aims to help professionals find international employers. It connects people and improves results for both sides.

There are many more social businesses out there that are working towards creating a more equal world and that have already managed to make a social impact, supporting women as well as men. Movements such as this one are helping us achieve things that were unimaginable in the past, creating a society that is more aware and cohesive. The seed for change was planted a few years ago and today we are pleased to see that little by little the status quo is changing.

The number of people working towards equality and towards making the realities we live in a little bit fairer day by day is increasing.

Together we can achieve great things. Help the movement grow.
