Organic Cosmetics & Biotechnology – Responsible consumption that protects forests

We are at a crucial point in human history: we have the opportunity to reconcile ourselves with nature. To do so, it is necessary to take perspective and not lose sight of the fact that in addition to the pandemic (COVID-19), we are living through a “climate emergency”, as the UN Secretary General has stated.

Every year we lose more forest than the area of Denmark.

Their importance is clear: forests regulate the planet’s climate, provide habitat for many species and sustain countless communities that depend on forest resources for their livelihoods.

Science and technology are (and have the potential to become even more so) indispensable elements in moving towards a more sustainable and earth-friendly future, where people choose consciously and responsible consumption and companies make sustainable business decisions.

In the cosmetics industry, for example, we find the case of Ashes to Life, a social enterprise of ecological cosmetics made from ash, which reaffirms its commitment to caring for people’s skin and that of the planet, launching its new products: Cellular Radiance Collection.

This new line of high-end organic cosmetics is made with pomegranate stem cells, and combines biotechnology with Ashes to Life’s dual commitment to help treat skin conditions, and to bring back to life forests that have suffered from fires.

Biotechnology is the science of applying technology to biological systems and living organisms (or derivatives) to create or modify products or processes for specific uses.

Thanks to biotechnology, it is now possible to develop cosmetic actives that are “programmed” to perform a specific function on the skin and to produce them in a more efficient way that uses fewer natural resources and therefore generates less waste.

This cosmetic is vegan, cruelty-free and not tested on animals.

Ashes to Life selects raw materials based on the origin of organic farming, the indigenous origin of each natural ingredient and its cosmetic value.

In the Cellular Radiance Collection, pomegranate stem cells are the main active ingredient in all products. Plant stem cells contain and produce amino acids, antioxidants, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins, minerals and more.

Including this more sustainable ingredient (along with other active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and prickly pear kernel oil), has allowed Ashes to Life to develop a more environmentally friendly line of organic high-end cosmetics.

Ashes to Life works according to the Triple Bottom Line model. In addition to creating economic impact, it generates environmental and social impact, and contributes to a more ethical and responsible economy.

From the organisation, they perfect ecological cosmetics and accessories that not only try to satisfy the needs for which they have been developed, but also seek to turn them into vehicles of awareness and transformation.

At Efecto Colibrí we congratulate Ashes to Life for its trajectory that evolves every day, contributes to a healthier planet for all, and promotes a change in consumer habits.
