Bayo Akomolafe said:  “The times are urgent, let us slow down.” This episode is about this. I have the pleasure of talking to Valerie Marouche and Pelin Turgut, two of the three promoters of o jardim, a two-week retreat taking place next January in the south of Portugal.

This creative residency exists for you to take time to slow down, deactivate the noise of everyday life as well as with people who are doing the same. All this in a safe space, where you simply allow yourself to be who you are.

Today we talk about the importance of feeling safe, the transformations that happen when we do so, the creativity that emerges when we are with people we trust and much more.

O jardim invites you to meet your creative muses in a space of creative solitude and creative solidarity – born from a deep desire for a novel, open, artistic and relational way of creating and leaving our mark in the world – free and liberated from expectations, outcomes, productivity, identities.

The residency runs for a month, in two two-week cycles, from January 6 – February 5, 2023 in a beautifully restored farmhouse close to the sea. Residents can join for the first or the last two weeks of the month – the first cycle will be hosted by Valerie & Pelin, the second cycle will be hosted by Valerie & Mert.

The invitation is simple: In an open-ended space, for two weeks we can be who we are and explore who else we can be. We follow sparks of inspiration in and between us and creatively probe possible responses to this complex and emergent moment in time -for ourselves and for societies at large.
